There are countless reasons why you should buy a SteelChief product. Check out our features page which provide some compelling reasons why our products are superior. We want to ensure you get a quality product made the way you want it, at an affordable price. We are a locally owned, family business who are committed to delivering quality products that will last the distance.
The stain that we use on our timber products is a water-based stain. It is completely safe for all purposes and for contact with people and animals.
We use Ecowood in our timber structures, which is sourced from sustainable tree plantations in Australia and New Zealand. All timber is arsenic free and is extremely durable for Australian conditions. For further protection from the elements consider staining your timber product. We offer a staining service where the product is fully immersed in our staining tank for optimal coverage.
Yes, we certainly do! We have done a number of projects in which we have manufactured and installed chook pens that are at least 7 bays long. These have also been custom designed to include raised layer boxes, additional wire sections and dividers. We can also manufacture aviaries with separate enclosures for breeding purposes. If you have some ideas about how you would like to structure your aviary or chook shed then draw it up with some measurements and send it through for us to look at.
The best way to avoid the stress of trying to keep your birds within the aviary is to add a bird lock to your structure. The 0.78m x 0.78m lock allows you to enter the aviary without the potential for birds to fly out the door. The furthest they will get is into the bird lock section.
If you have small birds like finches then please let us know when asking for a quote. There are gaps where the roof and wall meet where the ribs in the sheets are placed. We can offer ‘bird-proofing’ pieces to fill in these gaps and prevent your birds from escaping.
The size of the aviary or fowl house and the way it is manufactured does depend on the number and type of birds you have. For smaller birds our standard wire is fine, but if you have a larger bird like a cockatoo then we do recommend upgrading to heavier wire. Alternatively we do offer a welded mesh aviary for further strength. With regards to our chook sheds, if you are planning on having 3-4 chooks in the backyard then we suggest a structure around 2.26m x 1.52m.
Yes! All of our sheds, pet enclosures and cubby houses are manufactured in Ballarat. We employ local people to assemble all of our products into panels and our drivers are all employed by us too. In buying a SteelChief shed you are supporting a local family business and local jobs.
There are a number of ways to fix your garden shed to the ground. If you have a concrete slab then you will require a fixing kit which includes a set of brackets and dynabolts. This can be purchased separately. If you are installing your shed on to natural ground then we recommend using star pickets. Alternatively, we do offer a rebated concrete slab in some areas. For more information on this head to our installation page or check out one of the product pages.
Yes, all of our products include a screw pack to help you fix the panels together. If there is an elevation for a cubby house then there will be additional screws to help with this installation.
As all of our products are made to order, it generally takes 2-3 weeks for it to be delivered. This can vary depending on where you are located and may well be much sooner. Our trucks service areas on a regular basis so please enquire as to when we might be running your way next.
We do offer delivery, installation and concreting services in some locations. This includes Melbourne, Ballarat, Geelong, Bendigo, Adelaide and Sydney. If you are outside of these areas we might be able to help arrange something with one of our distributors. Either search for a distributor in your area or get in touch with us directly.
In Victoria, if you are erecting a structure 10 square metres or over then you do require a permit. If you are in South Australia, a shed 15 square metres or over requires a permit. In New South Wales, the limit is 20 square metres before requiring a permit for your shed. We do offer ‘maxi’ sheds that utilises the maximum amount of area that doesn’t require a permit.
We are finding more and more people are looking to utilise that dead space around the house as a solution to their storage problems. This often involves specific size sheds that are required to maximise the storage area on offer. We are the experts in providing storage sheds that fit these tight spaces and require features that are not always on offer elsewhere. This may require doors in specific positions, custom size shelving or windows and skylights for lighting.
Yes! You can choose to have your hinged door in any sheet position in the front or back of the shed at no additional charge. If you are trying to fit a shed into a particular position but are worried about a door clashing with another structure, then there are other options. We can also move doors to the gable or skillion ends of the shed. There are many other door options including sliding doors, double doors and even roller doors.
You certainly can! We currently have 13 colours as well as a zinc finish to choose from. If you would like a different colour roof compared to the walls then that is not a problem. We have made many sheds where the door and roof colours are different to the colour of the walls. If you would like some colour samples sent out then please contact us.
SteelChief sheds are the easiest DIY shed on the market. All of our sheds are delivered as pre-assembled walls and roofs, which means all you need to do is screw the panels together and fix the shed to the ground. Don’t be fooled by a shed that comes in a cardboard box, you will spend the weekend trying to assemble the sheets into walls and roofs before even considering fixing it to the ground! In terms of the time it takes to erect one of our sheds, it does depend on the size that you order. Our estimates suggest it takes approximately a quarter of the time to erect compared to a shed from a box. So insist on a SteelChief shed and spend the weekend doing something you love.
No, the swing sets and monkey bars can only be connected to the Action Fort and the Fun Fort as these have been engineered to take the loading from these items. The swing sets and monkey bars can also be free-standing. If you would like to attach a swing set or monkey bar to one of our other structures then please contact us and we can see if we can help you.
