Doors & Windows
Every SteelChief shed comes with one door included; everything else is configurable. The questions below cover door types and sizes, roller doors, glass sliding doors, windows, flyscreens, and placement rules.
What door types do you offer and is one included?
Yes - every SteelChief shed comes with one door included in the base price, in a sheet position in the front or back wall. You choose between a single hinged or single sliding door at no extra cost.
The full range of door types we offer:
| Door type | Notes |
|---|---|
| Single hinged | Swings outward, hinged left or right. Optional T-Handle upgrade (+$75) replaces the standard pad bolt. |
| Single sliding | Slides left or right. Does not swing in the wind. T-Handle not available on sliding doors. |
| Double doors (hinged or sliding) | Two leaves opening from centre. Replaces a single in front/back for +$169 (heavy duty) or +$235 (steel frame). |
| Glass single sliding | 1505mm x 2110mm. Access + natural light. Steel Frame or Timber shed required, minimum 2250mm wall. $1,650. |
| Roller door | 1.8m / 2.4m / 3.0m widths. Steel Frame + 2400mm wall + concrete slab. Prices from $1,195 to $1,995. |
| Roller shutter | 1.2m / 1.8m / 2.4m / 2.7m widths. Steel-framed wall only (not full shed). Prices from $1,560 to $2,047. |
| Garage door (steel-clad) | 2384mm opening. Replaces single for +$565 (heavy duty) or +$439 (steel frame). |
You can combine door types on the same shed. The sales team will plan the wall layout with you when quoting.
What size are the door openings?
Door opening widths by type:
| Door type | Heavy Duty | Steel Frame |
|---|---|---|
| Standard single | 785mm | 786mm |
| Extra wide single | 975mm | 976mm |
| Double | 1600mm | 1604mm |
| Garage door (steel-clad) | 2384mm | 2384mm |
| Single sliding | 730mm | 730mm |
| Double sliding | 1500mm | 1500mm |
| Roller door | - | Up to 3000mm |
| Glass sliding | - | 1505mm |
Opening height depends on shed wall height:
| Construction | 1800mm wall | 1950mm wall | 2100mm wall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy duty | 1720mm | 1870mm | 2020mm |
| Steel frame | 1750mm | 1900mm | 2050mm |
If you are fitting a mower or vehicle, let the sales team know the dimensions of the largest item you need to get through the door - they will match the door type and width to suit.
Can I get a roller door, roller shutter or glass sliding door?
Yes to all three, with conditions:
- Roller door - available in 1.8m, 2.4m or 3.0m widths (all 1950mm high). Requires Steel Frame construction, a minimum 2400mm wall height, a concrete slab, and installation by a competent tradesperson. The roll itself is 450mm in diameter, which is why the wall has to be that much taller than the opening. Prices from $1,195 (1.8m) to $1,995 (3.0m).
- Roller shutter - lighter than a roller door, available in 1.2m, 1.8m, 2.4m or 2.7m widths (all 1850mm high). Only the shutter wall needs to be steel-framed, not the whole shed. Prices from $1,560 (1.2m) to $2,047 (2.7m).
- Glass single sliding door - 1505mm x 2110mm, $1,650. Takes up two wall panels. Requires a Steel Frame or Timber shed and a minimum 2250mm wall height. Brings in natural light as well as access.
Can I upgrade a door without upgrading the whole shed?
Yes - you can upgrade just the door to a steel frame door and opening on an otherwise heavy duty shed. $225 for a single door, $349 for a double door.
Some door types also only require the wall they sit in to be steel-framed, not the whole shed - that applies to glass sliding doors, roller shutters, and individual doors wider than 1000mm. The sales team will explain what your specific choice means for the rest of the shed when quoting.
Can I have a door at the end of a wall or against a fence?
It depends on the door type and what is on the other side of the wall:
- Steel frame doors cannot sit in the first or last sheet of a wall. They have to be set back at least 230mm from the end.
- Sliding doors in the end sheet have their latch fitted around the corner on the adjoining wall. If that adjoining wall is up against a fence, neighbouring wall or other obstruction, there is no access to fit the latch - so the door has to be set back 230mm so the latch can be fitted to the same wall as the door.
- Heavy duty hinged doors do not have these end-sheet restrictions.
If your shed is going up tight against a fence or another structure, let the sales team know at quote time. They will plan the door position so the latch can be properly fitted and accessed.
What windows do you offer?
Two standard window types, both available across our steel-clad shed range:
- Aluminium Sliding window - 900mm x 900mm aluminium frame, glass slides horizontally. Available in Smooth Cream, Merino, Slate Grey, Monolith, Mist Green and Zinc. $399 in front or back walls, $479 in gable or skillion end walls. Flyscreens available as a +$80 add-on.
- Louvre window - 515mm x 705mm with 5 lockable glass blades that tilt open for ventilation. Zinc only, no other colour. $179 in front or back walls, $195 in gable or skillion end walls. Flyscreens not available on louvres.
Custom sizes and colours are also available on quote - these have longer lead times and a higher cost than standard.
Window placement rules:
- Minimum 200mm clearance from shed corners
- No conflict with door, skylight or whirlybird positions
- Maximum number of windows per wall determined by wall length
Can I have flyscreens?
Yes - flyscreens are available for Aluminium Sliding windows only, as a +$80 add-on. Louvre windows do not have flyscreens.
