Preparing For Our Visit
SteelChief comes onsite at several points - pre-sales for measurements or design confirmation, then for installation, concreting or site preparation. The questions below cover what to have ready, parking, access, marking underground services and weather cancellations.
Pre-sales site visits (measurement or design quote)
SteelChief may visit before quoting to confirm the shed design, take measurements, or assess site conditions - particularly slope and falls if concrete is involved.
What to have ready for a pre-sales site visit:
- Clear the site of toys, dog debris, garden tools, hoses, soil heaps, bricks and other materials so we can take accurate measurements.
- Plan the access route for delivery panels. Walk the path from the street to the shed site - check there is enough clearance for the tallest panel (typically 2.4m or more).
- Trim trees and clotheslines overhanging the site or along the delivery path if they will obstruct panel access. Discuss with the team member if unsure.
- Parking: we usually arrive in a small truck with a tandem trailer. A large space outside the property to park is necessary. Phone through specific parking instructions before the visit if relevant.
Installation or concrete day
What to have ready when SteelChief arrives to install the shed, pour the slab, or prepare the site:
- Parking: as for a pre-sales visit, the truck and trailer need a large space outside the property.
- Clear the site, surrounds and access path of dog debris, garden tools, hoses, bins or any other obstructions. We may need to lay down panels and stage equipment.
- A designated person on site (the customer, partner, neighbour) to confirm the exact shed position with the installer.
- Mark any underground services - electrical cables, water, gas, sewer, stormwater or irrigation lines. Star pickets are driven up to 750mm into the ground when boxing concrete, so undocumented services can be hit. This is the property owner's responsibility.
- Customer-prepared sites need to be flat and level, with soft materials (loose soil, plant matter) dug out and replaced with hard compacted fill or crushed rock (a 50mm bed is a good base).
- 240V power access may be needed for some installation tools.
- Where do diggings go? If we are preparing the site, decide upfront where the dug-out soil can be left. It is often useful in the garden, which saves disposal cost.
Schedule and what to expect:
- Concrete pour is typically completed in one day. Shed installation is scheduled a few days later (curing time).
- Shed installation itself is usually completed in one day.
- Occasionally concrete and shed install happen on the same day - talk to the sales team if you want this.
- Rain or strong winds: shed installation cannot go ahead. We give as much advance notice as possible if we are cancelling.
- Arrival times are approximate due to prior travel and other jobs. We will let you know of any significant delays.
